Problem Solving Approach Lab

I was kinda nervous headed into this lab because of I was unfamiliar with and I was unsure on which would be the most effective way to teach this. However, I lead my peers through a worksheet activity where they determined how to treat aphids in our greenhouse, in hopes of them realizing they needed to more information to make a real decision or which treatment is best and that is what we would be discussing in the upcoming days.

This is was able to give student autonomy of their learning they did their own "guided" research and decided how they wanted to solve the problem, which also created buy in for my unit because they realized that were missing some information to solve this issue.

I learned that giving my students a guiding worksheet will be especially helpful and along with that either providing guided notes or encouraging them to take notes about content during the lesson will be needed. I also realized that I need to be better at asking thoughtful questions and it will take some patience in order for my students to get to the realization I hope they will discover.

Heading into the spring, I think this was a successful lesson and something that I will incorporate. I just will keep in mind to encourage notes and add some more to my worksheet. Along with that, I just need to remember to be patience and just try to guide the students where I want them to be rather than rush and tell them what they need to know which will hurt their interest.
