"Trips" to Potential Student Teaching Sites
Due to Covid guidelines, along with some other factors, I was only able to visit one program in person, this year. However, I was able to visit another program online through zoom and another program over a phone call. So, in this blog post I want to take a little bit of time to talk about my expriences "visiting" with these programs.
The first teacher I was able to talk to was Mr. Honeycutt from Northwestern High School. I was able to talk to him over the phone about his program and what all the do. I excited to hear about how active the FFA program was and how supportive their community is. Another fun thing about talking with Mr. Honeycutt was to hear about their Maple Syrup festival and operation, with is unquie to this program.
Another program, I was able to learn more about was Manheim Central with Mrs. Anderson. I was able to have a zoom call with her, where I was able to see a littel bit of the set of the program and hear more from her. Some positives that came out of this chat was about the strength of their FFA program as well as the diversity in their program with 3 teachers. This was another great conversation about a program that would have a lot to offer if I student taught there.
The last program I will touch on is Honesdale, which I was able to visit in person. It was very nice to get to be back in a school students and see a program in person again. I really enjoyed seeing the greenhouse as well as where they the raise chickens. It was also great to see Mrs. Poley's teaching style and her about her experience. Overall, I had 3 great "visits" and I am exicted to see what the future holds for where I may be placed.
Hi Lacey - Happy placement interview week! I'm sure you did great. These visits sound like great cooperating centers. Have you thought about how SAEs are conducted at each of these sites and how they could benefit you as a student teacher? Reach out if you ever want to chat :)
